The Government of Ghana has officially reintroduced the Free Cocoa Fertiliser Programme, marking a renewed commitment to support cocoa farmers and enhance productivity across the sector.
Announcing the initiative, Minister for Finance Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson declared that the programme will take effect from the 2025/2026 cocoa season, delivering a comprehensive package of free farm inputs to cocoa farmers nationwide.
“Ladies and gentlemen, and to the cocoa farmer, I am pleased to announce that President Mahama’s administration has reintroduced the Free Cocoa Fertiliser Programme as an additional support to the Ghanaian cocoa farmer, beginning the 2025/26 crop year,” Dr. Forson said.
Under the revitalised programme, farmers will receive the following free agricultural inputs:
- Liquid and granular cocoa fertilisers
- Insecticides
- Spraying machines
- Fungicides
- Flower inducers
These inputs aim to significantly boost cocoa yields, improve the quality of production, and reduce the cost burden on farmers.
Dr. Forson stressed that the initiative is a direct investment in the wellbeing and productivity of cocoa farmers, stating:
“Government strongly advises cocoa farmers to apply these inputs solely to improve cocoa yield and their income.”
The reintroduction of the programme reflects a broader strategy by the Mahama administration to revitalise Ghana’s cocoa sector, which remains a cornerstone of the nation’s economy and a vital source of livelihood for millions of farmers.
