Finance Minister Highlights Oil Palm Industry as Key Driver of Jobs and Rural Transformation

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has reaffirmed the significant potential of Ghana’s oil palm industry to create sustainable jobs and improve livelihoods across rural communities.

During a working visit to the Benso Oil Palm Plantation (BOPP) at Adum Abanso in the Western Region, Dr. Forson applauded the company’s management, smallholder farmers, and workforce for their vital contribution to Ghana’s agricultural and industrial advancement.

He described BOPP as a standout example of how strategic investment in economic crops can stimulate inclusive growth and generate employment on a large scale.

“Benso Oil Palm Plantation is a perfect example of how strategic investment in oil palm can create thousands of jobs and transform lives,” he said. “The dedication and professionalism I witnessed here give me great confidence that renewed investment in this sector is worth every effort.”

Dr. Forson also disclosed that government is finalising a comprehensive Oil Palm Plantation Policy designed to boost national production, strengthen value chains, and expand job opportunities across the country.

He further commended BOPP’s inclusive business model, which integrates smallholder farmers into its value chain. According to him, this approach aligns strongly with government’s vision of positioning agriculture as the foundation for Ghana’s next phase of economic growth and job creation.
