In a decisive move to modernize Ghana’s agriculture, Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, is leading efforts to establish a local tractor assembly plant in partnership with leading Turkish manufacturer, Hattat Traktör.
As part of the government’s broader plan to mechanize agriculture and boost access to farming equipment, Hon. Opoku visited the Hattat Traktör production facility in Istanbul. Accompanied by his technical adviser, Mr. Kwasi Etu-Bonde, the Minister assessed the factory’s capacity and tested tractor models tailored for terrains similar to Ghana’s.
“Hattat Traktör understands the African landscape and produces durable, user-friendly machines ideal for small- and medium-scale farmers,” the Minister noted during the visit. The company, which manufactures up to 2,500 tractors annually and employs over 3,000 workers, has built a reputation for designing rugged, high-performance equipment.
The visit culminated in a significant agreement: Hattat Traktör will provide technical support to its Ghanaian partner, 10G Globaltech Ltd., to set up an assembly plant in Ghana, in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture. The initiative will operate under the Farmer Service Centre model, aimed at making agricultural machinery more accessible and affordable for local farmers.
“This partnership is not just about machinery—it’s about transforming livelihoods and securing food sovereignty,” said Hon. Opoku. The local assembly plant is expected to reduce reliance on imported equipment, create jobs, and promote sustainable agricultural growth across the country.
Hattat Traktör also expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, pledging its full support to Ghana’s food production goals through innovation, localized service, and capacity-building.
The move reinforces the Ministry’s agenda to create a resilient, modernized agricultural sector through strategic partnerships and investment in agro-industrial infrastructure.
